Visa and Invitation Letters

Admission to Italian territory for nationals of all the countries of the European Union and the European Economic Area is permitted if in possession of a valid passport or another travel document recognized as valid by the Italian government. Nationals of any other states outside the Schengen Area should check the visa requirements for admission to Italian territory at: www.esteri.it.

ACM CF 2012 can provide official letters of invitation to persons who have fully registered for the conference and for which payment has been received.

To request an invitation letter, please contact Francesca Palumbo by email <francesca dot palumbo at diee dot unica dot it> with the following information

  1. Name, affiliation, and postal address
  2. “Request for ACM CF 2012 Invitation Letter” as the subject of your email.
  3. Copy of the registration payment.
  4. Paper ID and paper title, if applicable
  5. ACM Member number, if applicable

Ground Transportation Information

The airport is 7 km (around 4.4 miles) away from the city centre. Mainly two possibility are available to reach the city centre: Shuttle-Bus and Taxi.

Shuttle Bus

This service connects the main bus station in the city centre to the airport. Rides are available every 30 min. during daytime. The trip takes 10 to 15 minutes and the ticket is 4 euros. Below is the shuttle's timetable.

Hotel and Accommodations

The 2012 Computing Frontiers conference will be held at the Hotel Regina Margherita in Cagliari. The hotel is located at the heart of Cagliari, in the street which runs down from the ancient fortified quarter of Castello towards the elegant walkway which leads to the port. On stepping out from the hotel you are met by the most beautiful shops, traditional and authentic bars and a captivating view of both the city and the sea.

It offers all the possible comforts in the historic centre of town, where every corner and wall tell stories from centuries gone by. It is also the perfect place for work, meetings and, of course that little bit of magic, holidays or just to relax.

Cagliari City's center can be reach in only 10 minutes by foot from the conference hotel. A map is provided below and directions from and to the city's center can be found here.

Poster Session and Banquet Information

This year banquet will be held together with a poster session in the beautiful Convento San Giuseppe. The "convento" is a building of great historical and artistic interest. It has great ambience for hosting social events and dinners, providing different indoor and outdoor experiences to create a perfect atmosphere for any event. The Computing Frontiers 2012 Poster Session will be hosted in its marvelous porch, before the Banquet

Location

The convento of San Guiseppe is located in Via Paracelso, 09100 Cagliari. It is about 45 minutes walking from the conference venue and walking directions can be found here. If you want to take public transportation, there are two buses, the number 30 and 31, which can be taken in Piazza Matteotti (where the bus and train stations are located). The stop that you should get off is the viale Marconi/via Vienna (a map can be found here). The buses arrive every 10 minutes and a single ride ticket costs 1.20 euros.

Please note that tickets can be bought in bars or news stands, but NOT inside the bus. From the bus stop, you can reach the "convento" in about 10 minutes by foot (directions can be found here). If you prefer, you can call the two taxi companies described in the ground transportation section to give you a ride to the "convento." The taxi ride takes approximate 15 minutes.
